Unlock the Knowledge Episode 1: The Amazing Origins of Samsung

When you picture Samsung in your head, what you will probably be seeing is its cutting-edge smartphones, televisions, and other tech gadgets. But are you aware that this tech giant had a humble beginning far back to 1938?
The journey of Samsung actually started as a grocery store in 1938!
Let’s dive way back and uncover how Samsung evolved from a small trading company to the global tech giant we know today.

Samsung’s Early Days
Founded by Lee Byung-chul in 1938 as a small trading company in Daegu, South Korea. History recorded that the business dealt with dried-fish, locally-grown groceries, and noodles. So, imagine that—Samsung’s roots were in the food industry!
The company’s name, Samsung, literally means "three stars" in Korean. The word "Samsung" was chosen to signify something "big, numerous, and powerful"—a fitting name for a company that would grow beyond human imagination.

Transition into Electronics:
It wasn’t until 1969, over three decades later, that Samsung took its major step into the electronics industry by forming Samsung Electronics. The first product? Black-and-white televisions! From there, Samsung began expanding into a variety of electronics, and by the 1980s, the company was producing semiconductors, which would lay the foundation for its rise in the mobile industry.

Samsung’s Rise in the Mobile World: Speaking of the present day, Samsung is one of the most dominant players in the mobile phone market, consistently competing with other tech giants like Apple and Huawei. With innovative technologies like foldable phones and 5G capabilities, Samsung never relents in pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the tech world.
Samsung’s journey from a grocery store to a tech titan teaches that great things often come from humble beginnings.

Unlock The Knowledge Episode 2: Speed Up Your Phone Charging With Airplane Mode

In this century, waiting for your smartphone to charge can feel like it takes forever. Whether you’re about to head out for an important meeting, need a quick boost before traveling, or just can't stand the slow charging speed, we all wish our phones could charge a little faster. Well, there’s an easy trick to help: enabling Airplane Mode while charging.

How Airplane Mode Helps
When you turn on Airplane Mode on your smartphone, it cuts off all connections to cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth services. This stops any features that drain your battery, like network searching and background syncing with apps.
With fewer background functions running, the charging process speeds up. Essentially, by reducing your phone's operations, more power is directed to charging the battery, allowing it to fill up faster.

The Science Behind It
Every second, your phone is active — even while charging. It constantly refreshes apps, maintains network connections, and syncs data, all of which require energy.
By switching to Airplane Mode, your phone isn’t using energy to maintain these connections. Here's what happens when you enable Airplane Mode:
- Cellular services shut down, reducing background activity.
- Wi-Fi and other network-based activities disconnect.
- Bluetooth is disabled.

How to Enable Airplane Mode
For Android Devices:
1. Swipe down from the top of your screen to open the Quick Settings menu.
2. Locate and tap the airplane icon to enable Airplane Mode.

For iPhone Devices:
1. Open Control Center by swiping down from the top-right corner (for iPhone X and later) or swiping up from the bottom (for older models).
2. Locate and tap the airplane icon to enable Airplane Mode.

Note: When Airplane Mode is enabled, your phone won’t receive calls, texts, or connect to the internet until you turn it off. It’s best to use this trick when you’re not expecting important communications.

Additional Tips for Faster Charging
While Airplane Mode can help speed up charging, here are a few more tips to further enhance the process:
- Use the right charger that supports your device model.
- Charging through a laptop’s USB port or a car’s charger is slower than using a wall socket.
- Powering off your smartphone entirely while charging can save even more energy.

By following these steps, you’ll see a noticeable boost in your phone’s charging speed in a shorter amount of time.

Unlock The Knowledge Monday: Myth of Using Rice for Water-Damaged Devices

"My mobile phone accidentally dropped into a bucket of water", "Can you believe my phone stayed overnight in a bucket of water". These and many others have been the major cause of damage for most mobile phone.

Over the years, mobile phone users have always believed the popular myths, the idea of keeping water-logged mobile devices in a bag of raw rice.

Do you know the funniest thing? They believed it helps to absorb the water content from the phone. To cut the story short, this myth has become the chosen solution for many people.

However, scientific research reveals that this method can be largely ineffective and can sometimes be of more harm.

How the Rice Method Became Popular

The whole story of rice myth sounds very far-fetched, but its simplicity and accessibility made it popular. After all, rice is a common household item and can absorb water when cooking, so why wouldn’t it do the same for a water-damaged device?

The problem lies in the hardware built structure of your smartphone or tablet. While rice can be capable of absorbing water content, it is not enough to draw out water from the intricate components of your device.

 What Actually Happens?

When a device should have contact with water, the internal components are at risk of damage. Water can corrode the circuitry, cause short circuits, and, over time, lead to irreparable damage. Possibly, the rice might absorb a small amount of water, nevertheless, it does not stop these damaging processes from taking effect.

Moreover, a little particles of rice or rice dust can block the openings of the device, therefore, creating further problems that may require immediate professional repair.

The Better Approach

Instead of experimenting your device on rice method, it's advisable to immediately power off the device > take out the battery, SIM card, and any external peripherals > seek professional repair service from a qualified technician.

Next time you or someone close to you experience a water-damaged device, avoid the urge to reach for a bag of rice. Instead, take immediate actions that can help save your device.

The key takeaway? Allow the rice stay in the kitchen where it belongs, and leave the professionals to handle your water-damaged gadgets.
